Turkey has a very wide variety of destinations such as historic sites, archaeological sites but also very many resorts along the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea. The many cultures that the country has experienced throughout its history and the very favorable climate provide a major advantage to Turkey in tourism. More than 39.2 million foreign tourists visited Turkey in 2013, Turkey is the sixth global destination.

Istanbul is the most visited city in Turkey with more than 10.37 million tourists in 20131. Split in two by the Bosphorus Strait, Istanbul is the only city in the world built at the junction of two continents2. The coastline of the Black Sea has a milder climate and is more popular for those who fear the heat of the Mediterranean. Large resorts are also in this area. The origin of tourists has changed much over the last decade. The themes are developed mountain tourism (resort, hiking, skiing, cave), nature (botany, birding, hunting), golf, marinas, the silk road, air sports (skydiving, balloon, glider), rafting, congress tourism, religious tourism and diving.
